General Information

The Standard Russian language courses will give beginners, as well as advanced students, the necessary skills in Rus 1Russian for practical use. Emphasis is put on the basics of grammar and conversation. Intermediate and advanced students will have the opportunity of improving their command in both oral and written language. In addition, they are free to take some special courses on Russian literature, history and culture.
We offer both individual and group tuition. We recommend you to take individual instructions, which are more effective. The teacher will design the special course for you according to your wishes and demands. One-to-one tuition guarantees fast progress and focuses on personal language skills. rus 3

1. General information
Russian language courses at PetrSU have been held since 1992. Teaching is conducted in small groups of 3-5 people, groups are formed according to the level of students. Students are provided with package of exercises to enlarge their active vocabulary and grammar.
Russian language instruction is conducted 5 days a week, 4 academic hours a day. Total: 20 hours a week.

Russian for beginners
For people with no previous knowledge of Russian (taught in English, German, Finnish).
Emphasis is laid on pronunciation, basic grammar, understanding of simple texts (oral and written), conversation on everyday themes.
Duration: 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 16 weeks (1 semester), 32 weeks (2 semesters).

Russian Main Course (Elementary level)
For people with a minimal level of knowledge (taught in English, German, Finnish).
Emphasis is laid on pronunciation and grammar, improvement of listening and speaking skills.
Duration: 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 16 weeks (1 semester), 32 weeks (2 semesters).

Russian Main Course (Intermediate level)
For people with a good practical knowledge of Russian.
Students will get the necessary training to improve their command in oral and written language. Emphasis is laid on reading and speaking skills improvement, understanding of radio and TV programs, films, conversation on different social and cultural themes.
Duration: 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 16 weeks (1 semester), 32 weeks (2 semesters).

Russian Main Course (Advanced level)
For people proficient in Russian. Emphasis is laid on speaking skills improvement, reading of modern and classic Russian literature, enlarging special vocabulary.
Duration: 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 16 weeks (1 semester), 32 weeks (2 semesters).

Russian for Philologist
For students majoring on Russian language and literature. Emphasis is laid on review of theoretical knowledge on Russian grammar and vocabulary, analysis of literary texts, culturology, new methods of teaching Russian.
Duration: 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 16 weeks (1 semester), 32 weeks (2 semesters).

Specialized courses for teachers, business people, lawyers, and scientists
Specialized courses are designed for professionals seeking special knowledge of language terms in their fields. At least medium level knowledge of Russian is necessary to enroll in specialized classes. The following choice of subjects is available: grammar, phonetics/intonation, spoken Russian, conversation, literature, writing modern Russian. If you need the specialized courses please let us know your wishes and preferences so that our professors could design them for you.

Individual training
In case you prefer individual training we are glad to offer it for you. One-to one tuition guarantees fast progress and an optimal focus on personal language skills. You are free to set schedule and duration of your study, course loads 10 to 20 hours/week, time you would like to start.

Special courses for advanced students
Advanced students are welcome to choose any of these courses. The courses are taught on individual basis. As well it is possible to form the group before arrival to Petrozavodsk.

  • Language and ethical mentality (special course)

2. Terms in 2010/2011:
There are terms only for group studies. If you choose individual tuition you are welcome to start and set the schedule at your own convenience.

3. The required documents. 

  • fill in the application form taken from the section "Apply Now" of the site;
  • transfer the registration fee 2200 RUB to our foreign currency account;
  • send the scanned copy of your passport to coordinator.

Deadline is 1 month before the beginning of the program.

  • student card giving you numerous discounts on entrance at museums and exhibitions, discos and shops, etc.
  • Certificate stating hours and courses taken at PetrSU
  • Access to the library and all facilities at PetrSU

  • Troubleshooting and help through our local coordinator
