General description:
The course of Russian Language of the 2nd Certification Level corresponds to the third level according to the European Standard of competency in foreign language.
The classes develop the student's language proficiency in the following types:
- Vocabulary and grammar;
- Reading;
- Writing;
- Listening comprehension;
- Spelling.
After this course students can pass the State Certificate Test, Second level. The course load is 720 instructional hours (380 of general & 340 of professional language communication)/20-24 hours per week.
Also modifications are possible. The Student can intensify any part of the course (grammar, spoken language etc.) or can combine the course with other topics.
The content of the course:
The programme of this course is based on the classical and modern Russian Literature and includes historical, cultural and language aspects.
- Modern Russian Mass Media
This course provides the acquaintance with Russian papers and magazines, reading and analysis of articles in different fields of modern life. Students observe the features of publication style, increase their vocabulary and even attempt their own publication. Topics covered include television, radio, advertising, the music industry, films, newspapers and journals.
During this course students study the technology of creating different kinds of scientific texts: theses, synopses, reviews, articles, annotations, using the special language of Academic Russian.
- Special courses such as Old Russian book, culture and literature, Russian Customs and Folklore, Reading and Commenting of Modern Russian Literature
♦Old Russian book, culture and literature. Students get the possibility to read and study old Slavonic texts (episodes from chronicles, lives of saints, old Russian poetry), to observe the features of Church Slavonic language, to realize the mentality and traditions of that period, to see real old Russian books from the collections of local libraries.
♦Russian Customs and Folklore. It is kind of language -literary-cultural course which includes studying Russian folk traditions in connection with mentality (for example, superstitions), reading folk tales and legends, visiting museums.
♦Reading and Commenting of Modern Russian Literature (Shukshin, Astafiev, Petrushevskaja, Dovlatov, Pelevin).
Requirements:
Students wishing to participate must have completed at least two years of studies in the field of Russian language.
The terms of the course:
October, 4 - May, 27 (Christmas and New Year holidays: December 24 - January 10)

The cost of the course:
75000 RUB. The cost of dormitory is not included. Basicaly the price for the room depends on its capacity. A room for three people costs 600 RUB and a room for two people costs 1200 RUB. The number of rooms is limited.
