Studying of the local History and Culture long time ago became a part of the educational and cultural program for foreign students at our university. Every time when there is a possibility to visit an interesting exhibition or presentation, a “Lesson in a museum” is organized. In March such lesson was called «The World of the Veps». At an exhibition in the museum of “The Kizhi Island" students from Finland, England and the USA watched the film about the living in Karelia Veps and about the folk customs gently kept by them, listened to the Veps music, passed with the excursion along the museum’s exhibition. All the comments were in Russian language, so the students have gained a good experience.
It is the fact, that the Veps are the small Finno-Ugric ethnic group and in our days their population is no more than 8000 persons. Some foreign students have heard about them for the first time here, at the lesson in the museum. In that way they have opened for themselves the whole new world - the World of the Veps.
