This year the celebration of Maslenitsa (traditional Russian Pancake Week) was very homelike. Today’s and former students together with the teachers gathered around the festive table. Everyone ate blinis (pancakes) and drank tea from the "samovar" (Russian traditional water boiler). Everything was very tasty, there were five sorts of jam alone, not counting sour cream, honey, condensed milk… After the treat there were Russian folk songs sung, traditional games played and Russian fairy tales staged.
Everyone around the table
Mehmet from Turkey tastes for the first time not only the blinis but the sour cream too
Julia from Finland, Mehmet from Turkey, Halvor from Norway and their teacher Ekaterina sing Russian song about a girl’s difficult choice between two sweethearts
Students and guests learned the song “Metelitsa” (Snowstorm) from their teacher Marina right there at the table
“Repka”, an old Russian fairy tale is always very popular
Traditional folk game “Rucheyok” (Little Stream) came as a welcomed exercise after eating too many blinis.
