Summer university-2016 of the Linguistic Centre of PetrSU has accomplished its work. Students from more than 10 countries came to Petrozavodsk to learn Russian language during three summer months.
This year more than 40 people from France, Brazil, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the USA, Slovakia, Norway, Spain, Denmark and Finland came to Petrozavodsk to improve their language skills and learn more about traditions and culture of the Northern region.
The participants of the Summer University were people of different age (from 18 till 85) and of different professions (journalists, military men, interpreters, weldors etc.).
Some students are interested in Russia and Russian language for self-education, communication with friends and travelling, others need it for their professional career.
The majority of students preferred to live in the host families as it helps them to communicate with Russian people in real-life situations, to learn how to cook Russian and Karelian national dishes and to know what “dacha” means.
Several people chose to live in the dormitories where they could find friends among Russian students.
Besides active language immersion, LC staff organized a wide cultural program for the students.
The students visited the Kizhi Island, the Solovetskie Islands, the Kivach waterfall. They also watched ethnographic expeditions in the Karelian villages Rubcheila and Kinerma and some of them had a unique opportunity to learn what Russian bathhouse (bathhouse with a stove but without a chimney) is.
Some students came to Petrozavodsk and Russia for the first time; others have already been here before, but anyway staying in Petrozavodsk and Karelia left an unforgettable impression on all our students.
