Variety of nations and cultures at PetrSU

This spring semester PetrSU welcomes the first exchange students from Kulob State University n.a. A. Rudaki and Tajik National University, both situated in Tadjikistan. Also, PetrSU continues successful cooperation with long-term partner universities and hosts exchange students from Finland, Kyrgyzstan and the Czech Republic.
At the beginning of each semester the Department for International Cooperation holds a welcome meeting for the new exchange students as part of the adaptation week. This time the meeting started with brief information about upcoming cultural and educational events that are held in Petrozavodsk and PetrSU: International winter festival of ice sculptures “Hyperborea”, public lecture on history of Karelia and theatre performance by PetrSU students. The information about sport centers and artistic activities in PetrSU was shared as well. The students from Japan became interested in musical classes because they have been playing various musical instruments in their home university. Boys became interested in sport activities, especially in football.
The meeting continued with special games that allowed the students to get acquainted with each other. They told about themselves and, divided into pairs, they got an opportunity to interview each other. Moreover, they took part in active and role-playing games such as “Mountain scarp”, “Island and sharks”, “Give a wing and lure into a trap” and others.
After the games everybody had an opportunity to share their first impressions about Russia, Petrozavodsk and PetrSU, as well as feelings and emotions. The hosts of the meeting were surprised to hear that the students from Japan were totally delighted with Russian yogurts and juice. A student from Tajikistan was so pleased with the event that he asked to hold such a meeting again. The students took numerous photos at the end of the meeting that would be saved as good memories about their time in Petrozavodsk!
