The previous week the university was celebrating its 75-th anniversary. In the beginning of the week the freshmen passed their matriculation, where about 2000 new PetrSU students were congratulated by the rector and the representatives of Karelian government and Petrozavodsk municipality. The great holiday for our students finished with the solemn procession along Petrozavodsk streets and the gala concert at Kirov’s Square. The international students took their part in the celebrations and spent the last day of the celebration week together with the other students and the university staff.
After the solemn procession, the representatives from each faculty and institute of PetrSU gathered at one of the main squares of the town. It was a great meeting point not only for the students, but their professors, the university staff, its alumni and Petrozavodsk citizens. The square was full with the anniversary banners, balloons with PetrSU emblems and was enclosed with the long scarf knitted by the students.
Anatoly Voronin, the rector of PetrSU, the representatives of the university departments and the Students’ Union, and Alexander Khudilainen, the head of the Republic of Karelia, congratulated the university family with the anniversary from the stage. “Being here with you, I’d love to return to my youth. The student years are always the best time of our lives. And I’m proud to see how Petrozavodsk State University is developing. The best students from Russia come to study here,” he said.
After receiving congratulations, the gala concert of the creative groups and ensembles of the university took place. Everyone could see, listen and even participate in the performances of the Academic Choir of PetrSU, folk music groups “Toive” and “Jeans-Kantele”, and others. The concert was closed by famous Russian cover group “Prikljuchenia Electronikov” that sang famous old Russian songs in a rock style.
That was another chance for the international students to get acquainted with PetrSU students’ life, the university and cultural life of the town.
