At the assembly hall of the main building of PetrSU was held the official ceremony of presentation of educational certificates to 44 students from Jordan who left behind intensive studies and very interesting cultural life during 8 months.
“Medical profession is in-demand and very popular in Jordan that’s why the specialists in Jordan who contacted us regarding the recruitment and attraction to PetrSU, expressed great interest in our Medical Institute. Many famous scientists, doctors, professors work here that’s why we are sure that the students will get good knowledge and skills, and they will become good doctors in future”, - L.Y. Kulikovskaya, the Director of the Institute of International Programs of PetrSU, said.
A.O. Lopukha, Vice-Rector for pre-university and career-oriented work, mentioned: “The students successfully passed the preparation courses in order to enter the Petrozavodsk State University, mainly the Medical Institute. They showed good knowledge of Russian and other subjects, and got the admission score necessary for the entrance at the university. Now they are admitted to the first course at PetrSU as foreign students. It is a very important work for us. Petrozavodsk State University takes the frontline positions according to the “internationalization of education” criterion. That’s why the university plans to increase the amount of studying foreign students”.
Many of students not only attended the classes at the university but also became the participants of the dance ensemble of PetrSU “Indira”. Some of the students became interested in Karelian culture and learned runes of the epos “Kalevala”. Others took part in the football competition “Friendship of Peoples Cup 2015”.
Current first-course medical students shared their impressions with us. Thus, Ibrahim Abu Dabour is planning to become a cardiologist. During the preparation courses he studied not only the Russian language but also chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics. “I came to PetrSU to study general medicine. I have heard a lot about Russia, about its high-quality education. Of course, at first I had difficulties with Russian grammar, especially with cases, it’s too many of them! But I managed it. I like to read poems in Russian very much. I have even read epos “Kalevala”. It’s very interesting”.
Tha’er Al-Nahlawi will study to be a surgeon: “I like Petrozavodsk. I live in a dormitory. It’s comfortable there, I don’t have difficulties even though there are no parents near me. In my spare time I walk down the town, do sport, I have even participated in a football championship. PetrSU is the best university, there are great teachers and friendly students there. I made a lot of friends”.
That day a lot of words of encouragement sounded from the stage to the address of students and teachers. The students were given memorable gifts with symbols of Petrozavodsk State University. In their turn for the teachers and guests of the ceremony the students shot a film about their everyday life at the university, prepared an original gift – Arabic dance and held a group dance master-class.
Right now the students went on vacation, most of them will go to Jordan, but in September they will continue studies at the Medical Institute of PetrSU.
