On January 23-25, Petrozavodsk hosted participants of one of the most expected winter sport events – the international sled dog race “On the land of Sampo”. So PetrSU students couldn’t afford to stand back from the race either.
Last year the International Federation of Sleddog Sports suggested making Petrozavodsk one of the World Cup stages. Over 120 sportsmen from Czech Republic, Finland, Australia, Belorussia and Russia and their dogs contested the victory with each other.
The event attracted a lot of fans from all over the world. Karelian dance ensemble entertained adults and children with traditional games, song and dances. Sled dog race fans could buy souvenirs with the contest emblems. Those who were cold could warm up in special tents with tea and pancakes (“blinis”). But the most memorable impression was the opportunity to take pictures with dog Cherke, the only dog in the world that made “TransArctic” crossing!
One or two days outdoors was a great start for our international students for the new semester!
