Finishing the Academic Year

The spring semester finishes a little earlier for the foreign students than for the Russian ones. The last meeting of the exchange students who spent the whole semester here and students who studied at the Russian language courses at the Institute of International Programs took place on the 4th of June.

Many of the students are coming back home and the new ones have just come to PetrSU to participate in the summer programs of the university. This meeting has become a good reason for the students to share their impressions of studying and living in Petrozavodsk. The newcomers got to know a lot from the “experienced” students of PetrSU: about the history of the town and our republic, local sights, the university and happy students’ life. The meeting was also useful for the students’ Russian language improvement as all of them did their best to speak only Russian there.

The participants of the Tandem program render a great assistance to the international students in the Russian language studying. Tandem is an open form of studying, when people work in pairs to study each other’s languages and culture. Native-speakers exchange their pieces of advice and recommendations to increase their level of foreign language proficiency. The program started at PetrSU two years ago and everyone who wishes can take part in it.

When the meeting was over the students were awarded the commemorative diplomas and certificates of completion of the Russian language courses. We hope each student is leaving with pleasant impressions about PetrSU, good memories about his or her life in Petrozavodsk, new knowledge and a wish to come back to Russia and Karelia again.
