Less than one year ago Christopher Ecker graduated from Friedrich-Gymnasium in Freiburg Im Breisgau, Germany. He is 20 years old and he knows not only his native language – German but also Latin, Ancient Greek, French and English. So now he came to Petrozavodsk to learn the Russian language.
Christopher has already been studying Russian for 5 months at the Institute of International Programs of PetrSU. Like many other foreign students he supposes that learning the Russian language in Petrozavodsk is the best choice: “I have to speak Russian at the lessons, in shops, in the family I live in, with my friends. It’s a good language practice in contrast to big Russian cities like Moscow and Saint-Petersburg where there are too many tourists and foreign students”.
Though Christopher is studying a lot nowadays and the teachers mention that he has made great advances in Russian in a short-time period he manages to spend his free time in Russia actively, too. Christopher takes part in hikes organized by the students’ tourist club “Sampo” and has visited Saint-Petersburg and some places in Karelia: Medvezhyegorsk, Pryazha, Rubchjeyla. “I will always have the fondest memories of the time spent in Karelia,” says Christopher.
