"Kalevala" Day

On the last winter day of this year our international students from Germany, Finland, England and Canada got into the centre of Petrozavodsk cultural life. On “Kalevala Day” that is celebrated in Karelia and neighbouring Finland, the first night of two operas: «Three Brothers» and «The Reed Pipe» of local composers took place at the State Musical Theatre. The productions made on the basis of folklore motives impressed students with their brightness and singularity.
At the lessons our international students learnt, why this day is celebrated as “Kalevala Day”, why this Finno-Ugric epos is so attractive and popular and who Elias Lönnrot is. Some of the students even had time to visit the exhibition at the National Museum of Karelia.
