22 students from the University of Birmingham will be spending a month at NEOU PetrSU. They will be going to language classes in the morning, and the university has a full cultural program lined up for them to keep them busy in the afternoons.
On the day they arrived, the students were given a guided tour of the city, where they learned about some of the history and culture of Petrozavodsk. The excursions that the university has organized for them over the coming weeks include a day trip to the island of Kizhi, a visit to the Kivach waterfall, along with outings to the theatre and museum.
During their entire stay, the students will be living with Russian host families. Although communication can be quite tricky at first, this will be an excellent opportunity for the students to improve their Russian language and gain more confidence in speaking to native Russian-speakers.
For most of the Birmingham students this is the first time in Russia and we are sure that they will enjoy and benefit from this experience.
