Raphael and Virginia are two students from Belgium. They came to Petrozavodsk State University from Institut Supérieur de Traducteurs et Interprètes de la Haute Ecole de Bruxelles (the Institute of Interpreters and Translators of the High School of Brussels).
At their home Institute they are groupmates, the only difference is that Raphael learns English and Russian, and Virginia learns Russian and Italian. And according to the study plan they need have practice in Russia. So, they came to PetrSU as the participants of Erasmus Mundus exchange programme to study at the Faculty of Philology in autumn semester 2010-2011.
Why did they choose Petrozavodsk? Raphael and Virginia understand that in
a big city there are many foreigners and they can not have enough practice of Russian. But in a small city like Petrozavodsk they have more opportunities for practice. Raphael and Virginia consider Russia to be a great country, even though a country of contrasts. But it is better to see once than hear a hundred times. And the fact that they have already seen a lot and will see a lot makes them happy.
Raphael and Virginia really like our University. According to students’ words PetrSU has an atmosphere for serious studies and the teachers here have deep knowledge and solid practice of subjects. Petrozavodsk State University and the Institute of Interpreters and Translators of the High School of Brussels have been continuing their long-standing cooperation for 4 years already. And we hope that this cooperation helps in training of highly qualified specialists for not only Russian-Belgian but also other international companies.
