New Economy - New Opportunities
2The 7th Youth Economic Forum “New Economy - New Opportunities” was held in Petrozavodsk on November 12-14, 2015. Being a discussion platform, it gathered over 200 young scientists and specialists dealing with theoretical and practical issues of social and economic development. They came from different regions of the Russian Federation and foreign countries. Four exchange students of PetrSU from Finland and Germany attended the Forum’s general plenary, a round table dealing with cross-border cooperation, and a lecture about the paradoxes of the Russian labor market. The two of them shared their impressions with us.

We Came to Study at PetrSU
SakuraHow can the Russian language unite a Japanese and a Chinese? Why would Americans study the Russian character? What Russian literature is read in the Czech Republic? Our international students tell a bit about that.

Time to Play!
2All the students study hard during the working days and even on Saturdays, but still there is some time to have fun and to communicate with their friends, groupmates and the other dormitory neighbours. And there are lots of traditional Russian games to spend great time together!

They Want to Help People
1From the first of September, six students from Zambia, a country in southern Africa, study at the Institute of Medicine of PetrSU. The young people have come to PetrSU to study within the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation for foreign students.

Discovering the World History through Rare Books
4Recently the international students visited the Scientific Library of PetrSU that contains around 2 million documents, journals, books in 18 languages and the rare books of XVI-XIX cc. Those who came are currently studying as exchange students at the faculties though the acquaintance with the university library was useful for them.

International Students at the International Autumn School
4The 3rd International Autumn School “Peace and Conflict Transformation in Northern Europe” was held at Petrozavodsk State University on 14-17 October, 2015. The School was organized in the frameworks of the project “Barents Peace Education Network”, which establishes a sustainable network between universities in the Barents region with the purpose of developing and promoting peace education.
This year the students and lecturers from Petrozavodsk, Archangelsk, Murmansk and their colleagues from Norway, Germany and Finland took part in the lectures and workshops.

Teaching English Learning English
1In the beginning of October Katie Stewart, postgraduate student of Indiana University Bloomington, attended the English language class of PetrSU second-year sociology students.

Letter of Gratitude from the Karelian Customs to the International Student of PetrSU
1Chu Jingru, the Master student of the Faculty of Philology, was presented with a letter of gratitude for her assistance in organization and holding the meeting of the working group of the Federal Customs Service of Russia and the General Administration of the Customs of the People’s Republic of China on improvement of customs procedures.

Eventful September
6The first month of the autumn is always a busy period of studies. Nevertheless, there was so much to do and to see after the lessons for our students this September.

PetrSU Celebrated the 75th Anniversary
4The previous week the university was celebrating its 75-th anniversary. In the beginning of the week the freshmen passed their matriculation, where about 2000 new PetrSU students were congratulated by the rector and the representatives of Karelian government and Petrozavodsk municipality. The great holiday for our students finished with the solemn procession along Petrozavodsk streets and the gala concert at Kirov’s Square. The international students took their part in the celebrations and spent the last day of the celebration week together with the other students and the university staff.
