100 Strangers in Russia through the Eyes of a Foreigner
Anas Alkatuaa Petrozavodsk State University held the 68th All-Russian (with international participation) scientific conference for students and young scientists. On April 18, Anas Alkatuaa (Dubai, the UAE), a student of the Preparatory Faculty of PetrSU, took part in the session “History of Culture” and presented his project “100 strangers in Russia through the eyes of a foreigner”.




The “Nu, pogodi!” Animated Series are Known Even in Europe
Anna and KaterinaMany people from different countries, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France, Norway, Colombia, Australia, Finland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Japan, the Republic of Korea, just to name a few, come to Petrozavodsk State University. Some of them come here to study the Russian language; others become the exchange students of PetrSU, who study at our university for one term. Among them are those whose thirst for knowledge is so strong that they decide to stay for a longer period. And so did Anna Grigerova and Katerina Savicka.




The Foreign Student Can Always Get Help from the Fellow Students
1Manisha Azizullah, whose name in Farsi means “benevolent”, “noble”, is a student of the Institute of Medicine. She has come to PetrSU from Afghanistan to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.




The exchange students of PetrSU visited the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia
1There are 5 large museums in Petrozavodsk and the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia is one of the most interesting and informative. The exchange students of PetrSU have recently visited it in order to get acquainted with history, nature and tourist sights of Karelia before studying these topics on the Russian language courses. The excursion was conducted in Russian as all students in the group speak the language well enough. They perfectly understood the guide, asked him questions and shared impressions with each other.

2The students from the Musical College continue to meet the international students, who learn Russian at the Institute of International Programs of PetrSU.

2“I’ve seen snow before, but I couldn’t imagine there could be so much of it, I’ve seen dogs, but didn’t know they could be so beautiful,” such were the impressions of Sayed Raqeeb Usmani of the January snowfall l and the meeting with the shaggy participants of the International Dog Sled Race “On the Land of Sampo”.




Reading Kalevala in Different Languages
1On March 24 the National Library of the Republic of Karelia held a literature event “Reading Kalevala in different languages”.




Meeting at the Federal Migration Service
1On March 16 the Department of the Federal Migration Service of the Republic of Karelia held a meeting for the international students of PetrSU. 26 students from Jordan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia and Afghanistan attended the meeting.




The Pancake Day
2Last Friday our international students had to forget about diet because they gathered together to celebrate the brightest and the most entertaining of Russian holidays – Maslenitsa. For foreign visitors it was a lucky chance to get to know Russian culture better.
