The ruble (rouble) is the currency of Russia (1 ruble = 100 kopeks). You can buy rubles in bank offices or get them directly from cash terminals. You will always get a receipt when exchanging money officially. There are different types of banknotes in circulation: 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000 rubles. Coins in circulation are: 1, 2, 5, 10 rubles, and 1, 5, 10, 50 kopeks. All payments are made in rubles; no other currencies are accepted in shops or government agencies.
Major cards e.g. Visa, MasterCard, American Express are accepted by the vast majority of shops, clubs, bars and hotels. Banking machines are spread throughout the city. In order to draw dollars or euros from the card, you will need to address to one of the bank offices, which are also widespread. Note that all the banks charge fees during financial transactions. You can easily exchange money and open an account if needed.
All incoming students must obtain medical insurance. Students, who come to one-year programs, can get insurance in Petrozavodsk. You can choose the best option from the various insurance companies we cooperate with. Other students get insurance before coming to Petrozavodsk.
The current price for medical insurance for one year is 2000 RUB, which is 30 American dollars as per 13.11.2015.

Petrozavodsk has a wide range of leisure activities for people of all ages. There are four theaters, all of which are located in the very center of the city: the Music Theater of Karelia, the National Theater of Karelia (Karjalan Kansallinen teatteri), Tvorcheskaya Masterskaya Theatre (the “Art Workshop” theatre), and the Puppet Theater. Almost all popular sports are present: chess, checkers, bridge, Go, table tennis, soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, cycling, boxing, judo, karate, Wushu, athletics, weight lifting, figure skating, hockey, and skiing.
